Yes, free software can provide a lot. We now look at setting openLDAP as being the Address Book for Mozilla Thunderbird. Having a centralized address book is essential for colalborative tools such as email and it is easily setup with openLDAP. Sure it is not Exchange or Groupwise but does not come with the price tag either. A big consideration in these times. Using openSUSE 11.2 as the ldap server and Thunderbird on Windows XP the demo is worth a view.
