My brother's computer - OpenSUSE 11.3 GNOME Test

Here are the specs of the PC: Chenbro Gaming Case ASUS A7N8X Motherboard AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1700+ 1.46GHz 2GB DDR-400 RAM nVidia GeForce MX 4000 PCI Video Card 128MB GDDR nVidia OnBoard Sound and FastEthernet Acer AL1917W 19" Widescreen Flat Panel Computer Monitor (1440x900@75Hz) 6x USB 1.1/2.0 Hubs WDC WD800JB 80GB ATA-100 IDE Hard Drive Lite-On DVD Burner ATA-66 IDE Logitech Keyboard Microsoft Scrolling Wheel USB Mouse HP P/S/C 750 The PC originally had Windows XP Pro w/ SP3 but the updates took the whole Hard Drive and I wiped the hard drive and installed Vista Home Basic (BSoD every time and took 1 hour to load), and now the PC has OpenSUSE 11.3 GNOME installed, but I'm testing the computer to see if it still goes slow, and it still does. Temperature in the basement: outside temperature due to lack of heat. Does anyone know what might be the issue with the computer slowness? Possibly the motherboard is about to die?
