140_groove + jammin

Another song composed by me using Linux and hardware keyboard/synth Yamaha S90. In this recording I routed audio output from Ardour to mastering/equalizing tool "Jammin". You can see a little of its features here. Screen zooming is made with Compiz-Fusion windows manager for Linux. Video is recorded with "recordmydesktop" for Linux, supporting Compiz-Fusion effects too (cool!) About the song: Sounds come from my Yamaha S90 Keyboard, played live for each track and recorded via MIDI with Rosegarden sequencer. Drumming is Hydrogen for Linux Mastering was made with Ardour, adding some effects to each track (eq, rotary speaker to "space sounds" etc.) Hope you enjoy :)

100% Free: Using Jack with MIDI (in Ubuntu Studio 9.04)

In this example I use Jack Audio Connection Kit to connect my MIDI keyboard to ZynAddSubFx (a free Software Synthesizer). Then I use Rosegarden (a free music sequencer) to record my playing and then output the result of my playing to ZynAddSubFx and to my keyboard at the same time.

NEWBIE ATTEMPT at Castlevania Level 3 Theme on Axiom 49 Keyboard

NOTE: I AM AN EXTREME NEWBIE AT THIS. ****************************************** My amateurish rendition of the music from the Nintendo game Castlevania (Level 3 theme, which I believe is called "Wicked Child"). My rhythm is a bit off and there are a few pauses and missteps here, but I compared what I was playing to the actual theme recently and apparently I've got at least the right hand part correct. The keyboard is an Axiom 49 MIDI controller, which is plugged into a Dell Inspiron 9 mini laptop (running Ubuntu Linux). Software-wise, I am using the JACK audio connection kid, QSynth synthesizer, and Rosegarden MIDI sequencer. The instrument type I'm using (selected in Rosegarden) is something called "Lead 1 (Square)" which sounds uncannily like the actual Nintendo music sound, which I guess makes sense as the original NES used some sort of squarewave sound thing. So, yeah, this is just a whole mess of music and computer and video game geekery I suppose!
