Sins of a Solar Empire Running On Linux (Gentoo) With Cedega (HD)

Please watch in HD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpvOyJCzZDE&fmt=22 Title: Sins of a Solar Empire Operating System: Gentoo Linux AMD64 Compatibility Layer: Cedega Recording Software: recordmydesktop and arecord This is Sins of a Solar Empire under Gentoo Linux using cedega. I am recording video with recordmydesktop and the audio is being recorded with arecord. I record them separately because the audio goes out-of-sync otherwise (though it goes out-of-sync this way a little it isn't near as bad.) Impulse does not run under cedega or wine. As such you must install and update this game within a Windows install and then copy it over. I use Virtualbox for this purpose. I installed the game in cedega using the discs and then copied over an up-to-date copy. You don't have to do an installation though. You could just create your game folder within cedega and copy the game into it. Playing online works great as long as your version is current. You will notice some choppiness. This is not normal. It occurs because I am recording 3D in Linux. There is a long way to go when it comes to recording 3D in Linux. GLC is a good way to do it if you want just the game itself but if you want to record a game on the desktop recordmydesktop is really the best option. But it is a pain to get good results with it and you will get some choppiness as seen in the video. Refer to the fps counter to see what the game performance actually is. Keep in mind that the performance would still be better if there was no recording and the desktop compositing effects were disabled. I recommend running cedega without compositing effects as it can cause reduced performance and bugs. I only ran with compositing enabled because it actually results in a better video when recording 3D games on the desktop. Update: Recently I have started using ffmpeg to record my videos. I no longer have issues with buffer overrun occuring during capture. That means I no longer have to manually remove freezes and desync during editing and the jumps seen in this video would be eliminated. Please rate if you like this video. I look forward to making more videos of games running in Linux and Mac OS X. Here are my system specs as per the cedega system dialog: cpu: AMD Phenom(tm) 9950 Quad-Core Processor cpu_ghz: 3.01 kernel: 2.6.30-gentoo-r5 machine_bitness: 64 memory: 3947 soundcard: SB Audigy 4 [SB0610] (rev.0, serial:0x10211102) at 0xe800, irq 21 soundcard_driver: ALSA Version 1.0.20 videocard_direct: True videocard_driver_version: 3.0.0 NVIDIA 185.18.31 videocard_manufacturer: NVIDIA Corporation videocard_ram: 512 videocard_type: GeForce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+/PCI/SSE2 x_version: X.Org X Server 1.6.3.901 (1.6.4 RC 1)
